Dave Gifford was a BCSS Director from 1988-90, and received the BCSS Honour Award in 1992. He was a teacher and Administrator in Vancouver, and died in 1992. In his honour, this scholarship is for one male and one female student who truly excels as a student-athlete.
Applicants must have competed in at least two BCSS approved sports during grade 12. Unsuccessful applicants for the Dave Gifford Memorial Scholarship will automatically be considered for their respective Zone Scholarship. (Please DO NOT complete two applications)
Two scholarships for $700 each will be awarded in this category (one male and one female).
Candidates for scholarships must complete a BC School Sports Scholarship Application Form online (see below). Print the completed form, sign the Candidate Declaration section and have an administrator (Principal or Vice-Principal) complete the Endorsement section.
Attach the following mandatory documentation in support of your application:
A 400 to 500 word essay (minimum of three paragraphs) relating your experience in school sports to the concept of ‘Commitment’. Please note that you are expected to fulfill the requirements of your scholarship application by submitting an essay written at the post-secondary entrance level.
Letter from a school administrator (or his/her designate) certifying character, scholastic achievement and school citizenship. The letter must include the following declaration: “I certify that this student is a suitable applicant for the BC School Sports Scholarship Program, and I endorse this application.”
Letter from the school coach certifying leadership, sportsmanship and, in particular, the level of athletic ability; and
Transcript of grades showing percentages for all grade ten, eleven and twelve courses completed, as well as interim percentages for all courses in progress
Completed and signed application forms, together with all supporting documentation, must reach the BC School Sports office by email no later than April 24, 2015.
